A chooser, not a single route. Pair pages do the specific job.
A 3D converter reads one mesh format and writes another. This hub is where you pick the pair: GLB for web and AR, OBJ for desktop interchange, STL for slicers, PLY for scans, glTF when you need JSON, FBX when a DCC dump has to leave Autodesk. Conversion runs in this tab. Each /3d-converter/{from}-to-{to} page has its own keep and lose notes so those URLs are not copies of this one.

Decide the next tool first, then the pair. Do not convert “to everything.” Open the matching pair page when you already know source and target.
1
GLB and glTF keep lookdev. OBJ is desktop geometry. STL is print. PLY is scan and research. FBX opens, then converts out.
2
The File API reads it here. There is no convert endpoint. Files over 80 MB are refused because device RAM is the limit.
3
Orbit before you save. Change the target and convert again without re-dropping. Open the matching viewer if you only needed a look.
This table is the index. Open a pair page for what that conversion keeps. GLB to STL is a print job. OBJ to GLB is a web pack. They are not the same article.
| Format | Color | Typical next step |
|---|---|---|
| GLB | Yes, when present | Web, AR, and a single-file share. Geometry, PBR materials, textures, and clips in one binary. |
| glTF | Yes, when present | Same scene graph as GLB, as JSON. Prefer a self-contained .gltf, or convert to GLB. |
| OBJ | No | Broad desktop interchange. This tool reads and writes mesh geometry. MTL and texture sets are not applied. |
| STL | No | 3D printing triangles. No color, UVs, or scene graph. Binary STL on export. |
| PLY | No | Point and mesh interchange. Vertex color can survive. No PBR textures. Binary PLY on export. |
| FBX | Yes, when present | DCC and game pipelines. This browser can open FBX and convert it out. It cannot write a new FBX. |
What each conversion measurably keeps, and how much larger the file gets
Grouped by the file you have. Each route page says what the target keeps and drops.
From GLB
From glTF
From OBJ
From STL
From PLY
From FBX
There is no convert endpoint. The mesh never becomes a multipart upload. DevTools Network will not show the model leaving the page. Device RAM is the real limit, which is why files over 80 MB are refused. USDZ, VOX, 3MF, and CAD solids are out of scope. FBX can be opened and converted out, not written.
A page that reads one mesh format and writes another in this tab. This hub is the chooser. Pair pages such as GLB to STL or OBJ to GLB are the specific jobs.
Open GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, and FBX. Write GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, and PLY. FBX is import only. USDZ, VOX, 3MF, and CAD solids are out of scope.
GLB for web and AR. OBJ for desktop apps that still want Wavefront. STL for slicers. Do not use one pair page for all three jobs.
No. Conversion is in memory. DevTools Network will not show the model leaving the page.
No. The converter is free. Sign in only for Generate history, saved logos, or higher density.
Use the route table on this hub, or open a pair URL such as /3d-converter/glb-to-obj. Each pair page has its own keep/lose notes so they do not repeat this hub.
The converter is free. Generate still needs an account for credits. The logo editor stays free.
Each pair has its own page with what the conversion keeps and drops. Reads: GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, FBX. Writes: GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY. To inspect before converting, use the matching 3D viewer.
