Scan mesh in. Apple AR zip out.
A meshed scan can open in Quick Look. Point clouds without faces are refused. Vertex color may not survive the USDZ writer. Prefer PLY to STL for print.

Meshed PLY, target USDZ, drop, download .usdz.
1
Source is PLY. The File API reads it in this tab. Nothing is posted. Keep it under 80 MB.
2
The PLY mesh is written as USDZ.
3
Open on iOS. Keep the PLY for MeshLab.
This page is only PLY → USDZ. Other pairs have their own keep and lose notes so they do not repeat this conversion.
| On this conversion | What happens |
|---|---|
| Keeps | Faces the USDZ writer can store. |
| Drops | PLY extras and often vertex color. |
| Next step | Quick Look. Print should have been PLY to STL. |

PLY as the source: Default material on export. Source has no PBR to keep. Measured 2026-09-13 by running this converter’s own loaders and exporters headlessly. How every format was measured.
PLY is parsed with the File API. USDZ is written in memory. PLY extras and often vertex color. That is a format rule, not an upload. Files over 80 MB are refused because RAM is the limit.
A meshed scan can open in Quick Look. Point clouds without faces are refused. Vertex color may not survive the USDZ writer. Prefer PLY to STL for print.
Meshed PLY, target USDZ, drop, download .usdz. No Blender and no account.
When a meshed scan needs to open on an iPhone. Print and research should pick STL or keep PLY.
Not reliably. USDZ here is a mesh zip, not a scan container. Keep the PLY for extra channels.
No. PLY is parsed here and USDZ is written in memory. There is no convert API.
Yes. Open the PLY viewer if you only need to orbit. Convert when the next tool actually wants USDZ.
Quick Look. Print should have been PLY to STL.
