Print file in. Desktop mesh out.
Some modelers still want OBJ even when you started from a print file. This page writes Wavefront from the STL hull. It will not invent materials. If the next step is still a slicer, keep the STL and skip this conversion.

Source STL, target OBJ, drop, download .obj.
1
Source is STL. The File API reads it in this tab. Nothing is posted. Keep it under 80 MB.
2
OBJ text from the STL faces.
3
Import in the DCC. Keep the STL if you still print.
This page is only STL → OBJ. Other pairs have their own keep and lose notes so they do not repeat this conversion.
| On this conversion | What happens |
|---|---|
| Keeps | Triangles as OBJ. |
| Drops | Nothing useful. STL had no extras. |
| Next step | Open in the DCC. Print should still use the STL. |

STL as the source: Geometry only. Color and clips are dropped. Measured 2026-08-27 by running this converter’s own loaders and exporters headlessly. How every format was measured.
STL is parsed with the File API. OBJ is written in memory. Nothing useful. STL had no extras. That is a format rule, not an upload. Files over 80 MB are refused because RAM is the limit.

Source STL, target OBJ, drop, download .obj. No Blender and no account.
When a DCC or a client workflow names OBJ and you only have a print file. Not for slicing. The slicer already had the STL.
It writes the mesh. Do not expect a rebuilt CAD solid or painted groups.
No. STL is parsed here and OBJ is written in memory. There is no convert API.
Yes. Open the STL viewer if you only need to orbit. Convert when the next tool actually wants OBJ.
Open in the DCC. Print should still use the STL.
